WHEN I SAY THE BEST SCHOOL, WE ALL SAY MALAYAN!

Malayan High School of Science? A science school wherein "Imagination is our Favorite Subject!"? Awesome right?!
Malayan High School of Science, a privately owned science high school in Manila, is the daughter school of Mapua Institute of Technology and Malayan Colleges Laguna. Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, president of M.I.T. & M.C.L., the first valedictorian of the Philippine Science High School, has served as MHSS president since inception. The schools mission is to be a global center of excellence in secondary education especially in the field of Science & Technology. The core values of the school are:Discipline, Excellence, Commitment, Integrity and Responsibility.

Since I gave you a little information about the school, I just wanna say that studying here in MHSS is not all about, study, study, study, work, work, work or read, read, read. MHSS also knows the word 'FUN' and we have fun with these two extracurricular activities or the Highlights of every school year!

BUWAN NG WIKA!

Our batch doing the thousand hands Buddha in Sabayang Pagbigkas:)
Buwan ng Wika, August.
Buwan ng wika is one of the most competitive month of the whole school year. Buwan ng Wika has different events such as Kundiman, Pagsasatao, Pinoy Fliptop, Pagsulat ng sanaysay, Paskilan, and Sabayang Pagbigkas.

For me Sabayang Pagbigkas is the most awesome of them all. Why? Because, in sabayang pagbigkas, we can all see the teamwork and willingness of the batch to win. You can see all our hard work and patience. Even though we don't have too much 'free time' and we always repeat the piece from the start, we never fail to have fun and make each other laugh.

Foundation Week

Me & My partner, Kenji in Malayan Idol :3
Foundation Week, January.

Foundation week, one of the busiest yet the most awesome event in the whole school year. Foundation week, like Buwan ng Wika has many sub-parts, including the Opening of different Booths, Quiz Bee, Malayan Dance Crew, Malayan Idol and any other random stuffs that are soooo awesome!

Malayan Dance Crew is the most stressful, tiring and the most "maangas" of all. Malayan Dance Crew is wherein a group of dancers from a certain batch needs to come up with dance moves that will make the judges and the crowd go wild or rather say "woooooaaaah!".
I've been joining this event for 2 years (2014 will be my 3rd and last time to join :<) and I've been stressing my self for the whole week. We always do our practice -slash- "tambay" in our house until 8pm, everyday of that week, of course, who doesn't want to win? Unfortunately, we're always in the 1st place (of course this year, we need to be the champion!), but it's okay as long as we had fun and all our hard work paid off. :)

Being here at Malayan is a great opportunity. Your stay here at Malayan will be like a roller coaster ride, it will have ups and downs, upside down and downside up, and twist and turns. But the best part of being here is that you will be molded into a great person that will help you be the best of you can be. :)

TOP 5 BEST SMARTPHONE FOR 2013

You probably heard the term "Smartphone" tossed around a lot. But, have you ever wondered what exactly a smartphone is? Did you know that Smartphone are different from an ordinary cellphone? In a nutshell, a smartphone is a device that lets you make telephone calls, but also adds features, in the past, you would've see on a personal digital assistant or a computer that are able to send and receive electronic mails (e-mail) and edit office documents and whatsoever. Before, there was a cellphone and personal digital assistants (or PDAs). Cellphones are for making calls, but besides that, nothing much, on the other hand, PDAs, an example of this is a Palm Pilot, wherein it used as a personal -slash- portable organizers. PDAs can store contact information and to-do list, plus, it could sync with your computer (like the Apple Products and some other gadgets.

As time goes by, PDAs gained wireless connections and was able to send and receive e-mails. Cellphones, on the other hand, gained messaging capabilities too. PDAs then added some cellular phone features, while cellphones added more PDA-like (even computer like) features. The result of these was the Smartphone.

Since we are talking about Smartphones, I would like to share to you my Top 5 Best Smartphones, well, for me. :)

TOP 5:

Samsung Galaxy S4

It's here at last, Samsung's biggest release for a year! The brand has not really changed a lot in the design of the phone compared to last year's Samsung Galaxy S3. Why is it so? Maybe it's because that S3 was massively popular, so the company knew that they already have the winning design. Since they've focus on the features and not on the design, they were successful in creating a very good phone with great features.

Some Features of Samsung Galaxy S4:

-It offers one of the most amazing 5-inch 1080p displays we’ve ever seen, expandable storage with a microSD card slot, a removable battery, 2GB of RAM and a blazing fast 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor. Like the HTC One, it also offers support for HD Voice and Wi-Fi calling, in addition to the carrier’s 4G LTE network. Other features include a 13-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, Android 4.2.2 and a whole suite of software that was added by Samsung to improve the user experience. We’ve found that the Galaxy S4′s 2,600mAh battery can hold up through a full day’s use, and there are plenty of accessories to expand your experience, including a wireless charging cover and plate.

TOP 4:

Lenovo K900

Whenever you see the Lenovo K900 smartphone, the first thing the strikes you is the size of it. It is a huuuuuge phone :) (It has a 5.5 inch display) Lenovo's K900 makes a bold statement about the PC maker's intentions to compete with Apple and Samsung in the smartphone market. My first impression to this phone, beside the huge display, it has a brushed steel finish that gibes you a robust, industrial aesthetic that while not appealing, will not be for everyone. On a less positive note, the K900 has a tendency to quickly heat up when running more heavy duty applications and games, although this doesn't seem to affect the phone's performance.

Some Features of Lenovo K900:

-It is powered by Intel, the Lenovo K900 mobile phone is the complete Android smartphone. Ultraslim at only 6.9 mm with a svelte and durable brushed metal casing, it features 13M camera technology, and a full HD 1080p 5.5" display so you can enjoy apps, photos, videos, and games at their purest. This phone is one of my choice because kobe bryant endorsed it. It was known with a quote: “Walang Iwanan”.

TOP 3:

Apple iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is already 10 months old. That might not sound old but in the fast moving world of the top-of-the-range smartphone, the iPhone 5 could be considered middle-aged. The most complained about the aspect of the iPhone 5 is the battery life. More than 2,500 owners gave the iPhone 5 an average of 6.8/10 for battery life. However, it's not all bad news for iPhone owners in terms of value. The iPhone 5 still maintains its value better than any other smartphone. This means that you can get back the original outlay by selling when you upgrade. Even better news is that the 2,500 owners who provided feedback scored the iPhone 5 with 9.2 for ease of use, 9.1 for features and 9.1 for the design, clearly showing that it also has a lot going for it.

Some Features of Apple iPhone 5:

-Loving it is easy. Thats why so many people do. With 4-inch retina display. Its not bigger. Its right. Ultrafast wireless. Browse, download, and stream content at blazing-fast speeds. With A6 chip, its performance and graphics boost up to twice as fast. With iSight camera. Tha camera you love shoots in panorama. iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. Thinner. Lighter. Faster. Simpler. The moment the iPhone 5 was unveiled we knew that it was checking off all the right boxes, folding in all the improvements and refinements people have been demanding over the past year.

Rating:; 8.5/10

TOP 2:

HTC One

HTC had a bit of a rough time in the mobile market for the past years. HTC wants to change that with the HTC one, a powerful, advanced and mostly seriously impressive Android phone that may beat its competitors.

"Using the phone for weeks, and after comparing it to its arch-rivals the Sony Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy S4, I have decided to bump the HTC One to 9/10. Although all our criticisms reamain valid, their impact dulled after a few weeks of use, while the benefits of the above-average internal speakers and excellent bodywork did not." According to my cousin who usually changes smartphones from time to time.

Some features of HTC One:

-The HTC One is a first-class device from both a hardware and a software perspective. It supports Wi-Fi calling, which means you won’t waste minutes if you’re calling from a Wi-Fi network (or can place calls where you otherwise might not have signal). It also offers support for HD voice calls, a technology that offers amazing clarity if the receiving end also supports HD voice. On top of that, you’re treated to everything else that makes the HTC One a winner, including a 4.7-inch 1080p display, a 2,300mAh battery, 4G LTE support, BoomSound frontfacing stereo speakers, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz and more. the HTC One is one of the best-designed phones on the planet. Not content with inventing a new machining process to allow the body to be all aluminium, meaning you're getting a 4.7-inch Full HD display without the additional heft you'd probably expect.

Rating: 9/10

Last but definitely not the least...

TOP 1:

Sony Xperia Z

Sony didn't really have the chance to give the Galaxy S3 and HTC One X a good fight last year. But this time around, they're looking to take some attention away from the top players by  releasing better engineered products. Sony has made a habit of using every letter in the alphabet and the 'Z' is probably one of their last cards from the Xperia deck if they're hoping to make a difference this year.

Some Features of Sony Xperia Z:

-This phone is bound to be a winner. It’s water and dust resistant, which means you can take it in the pool up to a depth of three feet for 30 minutes, making it a great summer smartphone option. It also has a 5-inch 1920 x 1080p display, support for T-Mobile’s LTE network, 2GB of rAM, a 13-megapixel camera, a Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and more. I chose this one because its feature is one of a kind, like its availability to be used underwater for 30 minutes long. And it is dust proof too. The only thing you need to protect is, it’s not shock proof. So you just need buy a good shock proof/ drop proof case.

So, this is the Top 5 Smartphone in 2013 for me. We might have some random differences but all of these are just a progress in life. We just need to know the limits of using these gadgets. :)

Welcome to Reality

TYPE. READ. THINK (100x). CLICK

"With great power, comes great responsibility", says Spiderman. The power of social media, needs great responsibility. Having social media sites is fun, BUT dangerous. Why? Because of one single mistake, clicking without thinking of the possibilities may ruin your life, maybe, Forever. Believe me, many are suffering from problems like this, you don't believe me? Well then, let me tell you this...

Yes! Welcome to reality because THIS IS REALITY. This is not a dream or a computer program where you can just "Ctrl + Alt + Del" or "Ctrl + Z" or whatsoever. Many people are carrying this dilemma wherever they go. What dilemmas? Here is an example of it.

Cyber bullying

Many "pre-teens" or teens are experiencing dilemma, wherein they saw something, have some insights about, and post the things they want to say- since this is a free country, they can do what they want.  They just post something or comment about it if they feel like giving their own opinion, but some are way to hard. Some kids say inappropriate words to the other one, and then start the argumentative fight, hate each other and so on. Same thing every time. Another side of this, well, to be honest, Attention-seeking, of course, almost all of us wants attention but for others, sometimes, it is too much. Some of them are like posting photos of them and saying, "Omg, I'm so ugly", I mean like, why did you post that photo if you think you are ugly anyway, and the others were like, "No honey, you're so pretty" or "No! You're not ugly, you're gorgeous". Its okay to post "selfies" and fish for compliments, but everything has a limit. Let me repeat, EVERYTHING HAS A LIMIT. An example of this is the story of a girl named Acacia Clark. You know her? Well, she is an Instagram and Tumblr famous. Before, she was a sweet, innocent and loving tumblr girl, but now, some people say that she's a (sorry for the words) whore, slut, nude queen, bitch and any harsh words that they can think of.
Those harsh words and hate started when she was starting to get famous in Tumblr. She had a boyfriend, who is also a "tumblr guy", other say that Acacia is using this guy to get fame. So, as time goes by, she became more famous than the guy. Suddenly, this two "love birds" broke up, well, I don't know the reason. They say that its because Acacia isn't satisfied with the guys fame or something like that. Weeks after, nude photos of Acacia is everywhere, her kitties (Acacia-loving people) are defending her and saying "No! That's photoshopped" or whatsoever. They say that Acacia sent those nudes to the guy when they were still together. Well then, it seems like Acacia did not think of "Think before you Click". (I'm not hating on Acacia,  I just used it as an example, and these are just my opinion)
Weeks after that incident, hatred was still there. Some random people are creating hate pages about Acacia, but still, Acacia's Kitties stands out, but it seems like those Kitties are not welcome to be one if they are fat, ugly and so on. They say that Acacia sometimes comment on their photos saying "Go kill yourself" or "You're so fat". Ohh. That's personal, and harsh! Well some of those kitties, actually tried to kill themselves and some of them doesn't want to eat anymore so that they become skinny like Acacia and whatsoever.

So, guys & gals, did you get what I mean? The lesson here is that a single click and mistake can actually ruin your life forever. What if that person whom you said was suffering from a disease wherein that is the result of having it. "You know my name, not my story. You know what I've done, not what I've been through", cliche? Yes, it is cliche but it is true and it almost applies to everyone.
If don't have something good to say, you might as well keep it. Or if you can't keep it, just say it to them in a very nice way. :)

OH MY, PLACES!

MY TOP 5 TOURIST DESTINATIONS IN MANILA

Manila is the capital city of the Philippines and one of the two main places that you would likely to visit when you are traveling to this part of the world. Manila really is a large area and one of the most thriving portions of the Philippines so you can bet that there are a lot of things to see and places to visit when you travel here.

For the traveler who wants to know the “must-see” things in this area, here are the top 5 hot spots to hit up when you visit Metro Manila for the first time.

1.    Rizal Park

This historic park has been the site of some very important moment’s in Manila’s part and is a great place to start if you really want to learn about the history of the area. Memorial plaques & monuments will give you this type of education throughout the park. There are also more leisurely things to enjoy here including the Chinese & Japanese gardens, the Orchidarium & Butterfly Pavilion and a chess plaza. In fact, if there’s only one thing you get to experience during your stay here in Metro Manila, you’ll want it to be in this park because there is simply so much to see and do in this one area.

Chinese Garden
Lapu - Lapu 's Statue across Rizal Park
Confucioius (Lao Tzu) 's Statue inside Chinese Garden

I’ve been here when I was kinder maybe? It’s our field trip in Museong Pambata and the part 2 of our field trip was to tour around Rizal Park. I remember the time that we’re laughing about the guards who were guarding the Monument and we imitated them. As time went by, I was able to understand the story behind the monument, like why it was built and other things.

It was built in honor for our Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal who used literature in order to set the Filipinos free. He wrote Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.

Now that I’m older, I encouraged myself to go to Rizal Park with Rafael, my boyfriend, and appreciate this historical place. We also went to the Chinese Garden and the scenery was stupendous. Unfortunately, we didn't had the chance to go to the Japanese Garden and other tourist attactions because we still need to go somewhere else. :( Overall, I still felt great after seeing these sceneries and it so nice to be in this historic place and it makes me so proud to be a Filipino. :>
Me & Rafael :)

Happiness in Chinese Garden :)

2.    Baywalk

Daytime!

There will be times during your stay when you don’t necessarily want to “do” anything but you do want to continue to experience Metro Manila. For those downtimes, a walk along the Baywalk is ideal. It’s particularly known as a great place for watching the sun set into the Manila Bay but you can also just watch and enjoy the scenery here.

NIGHT!

The last time I went there with my parents was when I was around 9 or 10 years old? There were street performers, bars, stores, and even a tour around Manila Bay riding a cruise ship. You can also be accommodated with a dinner. The experience was awesome. But the last time I went to baywalk was right after we went to Rizal Park. Unfortunately, the clubs and attractions were not there anymore because of the former Mayor of Manila who ordered that they’re the one responsible of the pollution in Manila Bay. But overall, it is still a great place to visit and your Manila tour wouldn’t be complete without Baywalk J

3.    Intramuros

ONE OF THE GATES IN INTRAMUROS
Visitors who are truly interested in the history of the region will want to make sure to check out this district which is the oldest district of Manila. It’s a “walled city” which harkens back to the days when fortresses were required to keep the people on an area safe from outsiders. Just exploring the old architecture (particularly the churches) here can really help you gain a great understanding of what this region was like years ago. Various forts, statutes and monuments can also be enjoyed here.

I always go to Intramuros in any occasion, like attending a wedding reception, school stuffs and many more. I remember my cousin’s wedding reception in Intramuros. I can’t remember the hotel though. When the ‘party’ was over, we decided to roam around Intramuros. Intramuros is awesome and very historical. We can see the Historical Plaque or marker where the historical background of the place is written everywhere. AWESOME = INTRAMUROS ♥♥♥♥♥
Historical Plaque

4.    Manila Zoo

Entrance :)

Many people have expressed some sense of disappointment with the Manila Zoo as compared to some of the other great zoos around the world. However, it’s something that other visitors think is worth checking out because of the fact that it is the oldest zoo in Asia. They say that the zoo is a 5.5-hectare (14-acre) zoo that opened on July 25, 1959.

Giraffe! Zebra! :>

Again, I can’t remember the time. HA HA. The things that I only remember are the ones I’m with, the animals and the memories. I remember seeing monkeys, turtles, birds, different types of snakes, giraffe, especially the zoo’s most popular resident, Mali, an Asian elephant who arrived at the zoo as an orphaned calf donated from Sri Lanka. Mali is the only elephant in the zoo, and in fact the only elephant in the Philippines. Manila Zoo is an amazing place for learning. Unfortunately, the zoo has been criticized due to its inadequate animal care and dirty surroundings, that is why there is a decrease in terms of the visitors, but I know that the zoo is responding with efforts to make the animal habitat as comfortable and natural as possible, such as by adding trees and vegetation, and expanding the enclosures.

Mali the Elephant!

Hippo! :3

5.    Star City

Star City is pioneer in introducing the concept of mixing retail with amusement, a trend being followed by most malls today where they integrate rides with shopping. Star City combines maximum shopping with maximum enjoyment attractions all focus on serving our target market, the Filipino family, schools, and companies. Here, our visitors will escape to a friendly stimulating sequence of worlds field with a mixture of maximum value shops and spectacular world-class attractions. (according to Star City ☺)

Map if you're going to Star City :)

Star City is old and has been operating since 1991. Most of the kiddie rides are old but functional. The rides are not photogenic at all but they get the job done in entertaining the kids. It’s noisy inside. The noise and screams in the roller coaster are magnified because they are indoors. In fact, I don't understand the Carnival Layout. In the effort to bring everything indoors, they sacrificed the zonings and location of the rides.

Beep Beep!
The last time I went to Star City, I was like 9 or 10 years old. I can't barely remember anything. But the things that I remembered is riding the teacup, the Dragon and the Caterpillar. But I didn't had the chance to ride every ride I want. I was too tall for kiddie ride, and too short for teen or adult rides, apparently, I'm in the middle. It kinda sucks though. Anyways, I still had fun while we were in Star City and I want to re-visit it because they have new attractions that I really want to see.
Teacuuup! oh uh, I fell dizzy already @_@

I know that I can't barely remember the time I went to these places, but one thing's for sure, is that the experience and memories that I have in that place is quite priceless and I know that it will be a part of me wherever I go. :)

Exploring the world or just a country is pretty much awesome, but being in this one city, you can have the chance to have fun and make every moment so memorable. :)

SANDWICHES

Hungry like a beggar? Hungry like a zombie? Well then, let's eat this Ziiiiiiiiiiiinger, or Twiiiiiiiiiiiister! These sandwiches are one of the best!

KFC's signature big sandwich made with Hot & Spicy chicken fillet with fresh lettuce and topped with rich Mayonnaise in a soft Kaiser bun.

I remember the time that I think that the Zinger nor Twister doesn't taste that good, but then, we had a bet that whoever wins, the loser will have to treat the winner Zinger. The good news is, I won the bet! The bad news is, KFC Zinger is the prize, and unfortunartely, I don't like its greasy scent that's why I don't like to taste it. But when  I took a bite, it was great! It made me want to eat all the Zingers in all KFC Branches! Just like when Squidward in Spongebob Squarepants first time, he just can't get enough, just like meeee! :D

Rose from humble beginnings to be one of the leading fast food chains in the Philippines. In 1975 it is used to be an ice cream parlor serving hot meals and sandwiches. With the coming of foreign franchise, Jollibee experimented with hamburgers until it came up with a recipe geared for a definitely Filipino flavor. The companies rapid growth is attributed to its creative and innovative marketing programs, its dedication to research to continuously come up with products that will appeal to the Filipino palate & consistent staff training to provide product knowledge & quality service.

MCDONALD'S!

I AM NOT DEAD! Mcdonald's did not kill me, if by eating their food, or a more sinister motive ala something out of The Insider.

Mcdonald's is an international franchise that enjoyed major success in the Philippines. It was brought in by George T. Yang through Golden Arches in 1981. It quickly became a huge success & Mcdonald's branches began sprouting up all over the major cities in the Philippines. With its continued success came innovations & some new products were introduced that are more flavorful to suit the Filipino taste as consumers are not very familiar with bland food that needs additional condiments & spices you eat. Mcdo also started 24/7 restaurants and delivery that are available in any branches.

BIG MAC

"The Big Mac reflects the hopes and aspirations of America, and to the world it is an attainable and recognizable symbol of the American Dream." -A.H.T. (A Hamburger Today)

A double layer of sear-sizzled 100% pure beef mingled with special sauce on a sesame seed bun and topped with melty American cheese, crisp lettuce, minced onions and tangy pickles.

Everyone's first time is supposed to be memorable, but not that much. At least, that's what Hollywood taught me. After living 5, 475 days on this earth, I was about to have my first Big Mac! (Well, it is my sister's birthday gift for me) I never heard the jingle, never took a bite of one, and never smelled from afar. I was curious. Perhaps even fry-curious. The Big Mac, for all intents and purposes, is really big (for a petite girl like me). But as we all know, it's not about the size of the fries, it;s about the motion of the 'Mac. When our order came, the sandwich is perfectly balanced. I was surprised that the beef took such a backseat to the veggies but came together so well. I had to admit, I was pretty impressed (A+ for that!). Unfortunately, by my second bite, roughly two minutes in, the sandwich completely disintegrated in my hands spewing lettuce shreds and special sauce all over the place. After that one stupendous bite, flaws started to perk up as the sandwich entered Bizarro territory. If the euphoria of that perfect bite had been consistent throughout the sandwich, I'd have no qualms giving it my highest rating. I soon realized that despite its perfect exterior and legendary reputation, it wasn't perfect. Do I regret it? Err, not that much. But if I were you, you should always give it a shot. Try this big and tasty Big Mac. The new headline when it comes to burgers and sandwiches.

Snack time, Break time or just plain Hungry but don't want to eat that much? McDonald's french fries are so incredibly addicting that they can't be from this world, right? Or not? Why not 'Taste it to Believe it'?'

Golden on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. Made with quality potatoes and cooked in our Canola oil blend for zero grams of trans fat per serving. Now that's an epic bite.

It was time to put my taste buds to work and head back to McDonald's. Me? Craving? Craving for Mcdo Fries? Yeah right. :) Well, for me, three things to be exact: crispness, salt level, and consistency. Yes, they carry great potato flavor locked inside their airy interiors, but when we're all perfectly honest with ourselves, the warm snap of a never-limp Mcdonald's fry is what gets us, and it's the overwhelming consistency of the fry batches from Mcdonald's to Mcdonald's which makes such a uniform experience. Every time I eat Mcdo Fries, I can't help myself to eat more and more, and to be honest, one large fries is not enough, I tend to eat more and more and I can't stop. Its like the fries are talking to me, saying, "Hey there my pal! Come and eat me, I'm your all time favorite! You don't want to miss me, right? You know that I'm yummy and crispy and I know that you can't resist me!". And now, here I am, typing this review, eating my all time favorite, Mcdonald's Fries.

Well then, here you go, this is my point of view about the Top 3 Food Chains here in the Philippines. I know that some of you will not agree, but it is MY P.O.V., why not try to have a blog and do your very own Top 3 food chain or just simply be a Hedonist that does Food Review? :)

Have a good day my Friend!
